The Ghostriders played the Sicamous Eagles October 12th in the Fernie Memorial Arena and skated away with a 5-1 win in front of 550 fans.
Second year Rider Dave McIvor scored a pair of goals in the first period and the first one was a short handed goal scorers goal that mortal players miss. The second one was at even strength. Scott Traverse and Jordan Reid had the assists.
In the second period the Riders scored two on the PP. Joe Deluca from Richard Small and Dave King, then it was Richard Small from Brent Lucente and Dave King.
Scott Traverse scored the only Riders goal in the third from Joe Deluca and Aaron Baut scored the lone Eagle goal. Nigle Nolan stopped 27 shots for the win but was only really tested a few times. Mark Trousdell faced 54 shots for the Eagles in the loss and was tested many times.
Dave McIvor with a pair of goals was named as the first star, Joe Deluca with a goal and an assist after making one of the biggest hits of the night was the second star and Scott Traverse with a goal and an assist was the third star. He only got on the scoresheet with an assist but for my money Jordan Reid was the best player on the ice Friday and was dangerous every time he touched the puck. Reid stole the puck to create McIvor's second goal and short handed he created several great scoring chances.
Ghostrider fans also got their first look at defenseman Derek Bishop, and forwards Brent Lucente and Richard Small on Friday night and all three took turns impressing the fans. Bishop is an all-star quality defenseman and so far has points every game and Richard Small who hasn't played in a couple of months had a goal and an assist in his first game. Meanwhile Lucente gets a point in every game and has the skill to keep on at that pace. All three of these guys looked good against Sicamous. A few fights in this game including former Rider Mike Baloun and new Ghostrider Dave King. The two seventeen year old former team-mates had a titanic battle and were seen shaking hands after it was all over. Fun was had by all. Go figure.
In the AJHL Junior “A” league they are having a “Showcase” weekend. All teams play in a tournament in and around the Calgary area and the games count in the standings. A perfect weekend for the scouts to see all the teams. An idea the KIJHL should look at instead of the all-star game.
