Odds n' Ends
This was written last Wednesday AM just before the Thursday trade deadline so there may be some new players on the roster Friday.........With a 92.65 save % and two shutouts last month netminder Jason Greenwell was the Ghostriders nominee for the KIJHL Player of the Month for December ....... Kamloops' Lundy Trenamin and Castlegar's Cody Steel won the POM.... Creston didn't bother to nominate a player....give your friggin heads a shake... Last Friday there were well over 900 fans at the Summerland game and Kyle Chartrand was the first star, Robbie Shaw the second and Jeff Zmurchyk the third.....Jason Greenwell got the win in net...Top scoring Riders defenseman Cody Reinbold was the second star and lone Rider star on Saturday.... The All Star Game is Saturday in Creston. Jordan Reid, Cody Reinbold and Joe DeLuca will represent Fernie in that game and Jeff Zmurchyk, Dave King, Josh McEwan and Jordan Sullivan will play in the Top Porspects game....If you were wondering why you can't always find the scores on some game nights.... It is because esportsdeskpro.com who are the hosts of the KIJHL's excellent stats site also have several other leagues throughout Canada and the US using their program. So when too many teams try to use it at the same time some teams can't get on to post their game sheets for the fans. Hopefully this problem will be corrected soon.... As bad as it can be.... it's still a million miles ahead of what we had before.... once a week stats.....The Ghostriders play Kimberley and the penalty leaders from Princeton next weekend... Bring a facemask.
Round the League
As of Wednesday January 9th....After winning 6-3 in Kimberley and 3-2 here in Fernie the Nelson Leafs were first overall with 56 points, Revelstoke, who has been first overall for ever won 7-2 over Grand Forks but had their first place match up with Princeton canceled because of roads and fell behind but still have an impressive 55pts...... Beaver Valley who had two losses against Nelson the week before had wins over Castlegar and Invermere last week and were right behind with 53..... Fernie is still in the running for first overall with 48.....With their win Tuesday, Kimberley, who will host the BC Championship Cyclone Taylor Cup this spring, moved ahead of Spokane for the last playoff spot with 38 points.... Spokane has 37...... Creston is in second with 43.....Speaking of Creston, they get the dubious honor of winning the The Biggest Loss of the Week Award with a 12-5 loss against the Castlegar Rebels....And it was at home....Three Rebels had 4 points, Brent Lucente had 5 and the Creston Coaches had a stroke.
