Canadian skier Emily Brydon won a World Cup super G event in St. Moritz, Switzerland, on Sunday.
It was the Fernie, B.C., native's first gold medal in seven World Cup seasons.
Brydon, whose career was interrupted by a bad crash in St. Anton in 2001, finished in one minute, 17.39 seconds to outpace the competition by a healthy margin of 0.25 seconds.
"It's like a dream I've had for years," Brydon said. "I just let the skies go and I tried to create as much speed as possible."
Austria's Elisabeth Goergl came second (1:17.64), and teammate Renate Goetschl, the defending super G champion, finished a close third (1:17.68).
Brydon had previously garnered her lone World Cup silver medal on the same piste in St. Moritz on Dec. 16.
The 27-year-old collected her seventh medal in 160 World Cup starts.
Kelly Vanderbeek of Kapuskasing, Ont., also finished in the top 10, cruising to a 1:18.15 finish for ninth place.
Janyk Britt, of Whistler, B.C., finished 15th.
Lindsey Vonn of the United States was fourth, missing the podium by 0.01.
"This is like the fifth time that I'm one-hundredth off the podium and it's just a little bit disappointing," the American said. "The fourth place is a really hard place to be, especially when it's only one-hundredth."
