Seven Canadian alpine skiers drove away in new cars Wednesday as part of a sponsorship agreement with General Motors.
One-year leases on cars are awarded to any Canadian skier who who wins a World Cup race, earns a podium at the world championships or finishes in the top-10 season rankings.
This season, Calgary's Jan Hudec, Britt Janyk of Whistler, B.C., and Emily Brydon of Fernie, B.C., all won their first career World Cup races. Meanwhile, Erik Guay of Mont Tremblant, Que., Calgary's John Kucera, Vancouver's Manuel Osborne-Paradis and Kelly VanderBeek of Kitchener, Ont., all met the qualification standards.
