Assemble at The Arts Station on November 20th, 6pm for this enchanting evening! Fernie is to be illuminated as never before as Downtown is to be decorated with the beauty of shadows and light! The inaugural ‘Art on Fire Festival’ will be a celebration of light in the dark as the seasons change.
Festival goers will be able to create their own lantern at Lantern building Jamborees at the Arts Station on November 1-5 at 6-9pm, or Sunday 7th at 1-5pm.
Then use the lanterns to decorate Fernie with the amazing shadows created by the interplay of paper and fire. Aside from the lanterns created by participants there will also be stunning handcrafted lanterns ranging from the very big to the very small. Also featuring stilt-walkers, fire-breathing, musical and visual performances, food, fireworks and so much more!
Art on Fire honours Diwali with those around the world. Diwali is known as the Festival of Lights and is an important five-day festival in Hinduism, Sikhism, and Jainism. Diwali translates into “row of lamps” and is a celebration of the triumph of good over evil. Snaking their way through town the lanterns, fire, music and people will meet – joining together to create beauty, fun, and celebration in the night!
