The ever popular Annual Soapbox Derby returns to Fernie thanks to the Fernie chapter of the Knights of Columbus. The event is open to girls and boys aged 9 to 14 and will be held on Castle Mountain Road.

Cart kits should be ordered as soon as possible to allow time for assembly and display. For general instruction on kit construction go to www.gokit.com.
Dates and times are as follows, all events take place at Castle Mountain Road:
Inspection: Friday, September 19th 5pm-8pm
Practice: Friday, September 19th 5pm-8.30pm
Line-up at top of hill: Saturday, September 20th 9.30-10am
Race begins: Saturday, September 20th 10am
RULES
-Participants must be aged 9-14 on September 20th 2008. Parental permission is required to enter. Birth certificate may be required in the event of an age challenge.
-All racers must be assembled using the designated kit components, ie wheels & axels. New replacement wheels will be available on race day at the "Ghost Rider Sports" pit stop for $6 each.
-Basic design info is included with the kit however any kind of design can be used with safety in mind. Drivers must be able to brake with their feet unless a mechanical brake has been installed and approved at the inspection stage.
-Carts must be safety inspected and have an approved safety sticker applied at the Inspection station on Friday, September 19th.
-Drivers must wear shoes or boots (no sandals) and a safety helmet. Knee and elbow pads are recommended.
-Four carts will race per heat. Drivers must stay in lane. Penalties may be implied for lane infractions.
-Each driver will participate in four regular heats in rotating lanes.
-The fifth and final heat will be run based on the slowest to fasted accumulated times. Each winner receives a trophy.
