I own two small business in the Fernie area. In June I went to a certain business to have signs made to promote my companies. At the time I was told that the work would be completed by July First long weekend. I was quite happy with this time line. In the beginning of July I had yet to hear about my signs so my wife went to investigate. She was told that nothing was done or even started. They had completely forgot about my business. They didn't even know what they were supposed to do.
I went in to clarify the work that needed to be done and was told that it would be no problem. July 31st we checked in to see how it was coming. This business had yet to even start on our project. Below is an E-mail from the business and their idea of great customer service.

After a delightful conversation with your wife this morning Ive decided not to proceed with the signage you have so patiently waited for. Now there will be 5 unhappy customers in the Valley after 32 years. Regretably your order was one of the rare ones that didn't get done on time. My apologies
A SIGNS & GRAPHICS
It is very hard to support local business when the local business refuses to do what they would have been paid to do.
I am completely disappointed in A Signs & Graphics. I was told not to take my business there and to have it done outside of town. I have learned my lesson and will not support a business that treats other small business' this way. It must be nice to pick and choose who you do business for and when you are going to do it!!!

I would rate A signs mabey 7 out of 10, sure some stuff may take a while of be missed , but that is the nice thing about living in a small town, Anna does a great job on her own and she takes her time to do a job well, but to bring your grip on to the net is kinda lame , take it up with Anna , cause now we have to speculate .. was your wife rude to Anna? for her not to take you on would lead me to belive this,

I have recently had the pleasure of doing business with anna, she is fantastic at her job and has always been top notch to deal with. I think its cowardly to slam her business online, and anybody with half a brain would realize you don't survive for 30 odd years doing business in a small town with poor service and bad business practices. good communication and a little patience goes along way folks. My rating 10/10

If Anna was fantastic she would of done the job right the first time. She would also of contacted me if there were any problems or concerns. I work hard in this community for many volunteer organizations and for each and everyone of you who needs help. When it comes to my own business I do not like being screwed. As far as slamming her on the net. Freedom of speech! She needs to appologize to me and my wife then maybe I will let it go. I have met nothing but walls since I started my business in this community. It is not what you know or how well you do it. It is always about who you are and who you know. I'm really tired of the good old clique attitude around here. If your business is supposed to do something for pay, do it!!!
Due to this incident I have now had a month of lost business going on two. Who pays for that? I do. When you take on a job you get it done or you find a solution. But once again it must be nice to pick and choose who you do your business for and when you will do it, if at all.

why is it that volunteers always want some credit, doesn't that go against the whole idea? Anyways, "it's not what you know but who you know" has always rang true in any business, anywhere. I hope for your sake you never encounter a customer like yourself. Perhaps your building some of those walls yourself, fernie is a great place to do business!

You don't want us to volunteer? That sounds good. With out us you would lose some major programs in this community. Business is great in this town as long as you don't have to depend on the local population to support you. Walls I'm putting up started yesterday cause I am quite sick and tired of being pushed aside for other business' that are bigger and run by people that seem to be in the clique. I quite enjoy Fernie I have been here ten years. I want a fair shake at getting what my business needs. No matter what it is from automotive, marketing, building supplies to Signs. The only place I can find business' that will work with someone as small as we are is other communities. Not very supportive for up and comers.
The walls I'm running into are established business who don't really like to see competition in this town. From my first day, people have been spreading rumours about my business and trying to tell my clients that it isn't safe, it's dangerous, it isn't worth the money. Why would other people go out of their way to do that? Could it be my product is better than theirs? I hope not, because I try to tell my clients that they should try all the other activities that are offered in this community. I go as far as collecting brochures from other business' and actually give them to my clients so they will try other things beyond the ski hill. I'm quit pro Fernie. I just don't believe other business' are.

i didn't say you should not volunteer, just stop looking for credit for it! It's called volunteering because you want to do it. not because you think it might get you more business or into that infamous fernie business clique,or the old boys network or whatever the hell they call it now.
Competition is always healthy for a community like Fernie, and the ones who do it best survive. Ask anyone who's run a business as long as Anna and they will tell you the same thing i'm sure.
If you're running a superior business, then you've got nothing to worry about. I would take that pack of pringles off your shoulder, take a deep breath and stop taking what other people think so seriously!

I am forced to volunteer for this community. I volunteer my time 24 hours a day 7 days a week. This is my job. We get paid $2 an hour to put our lives at risk and on hold to save yours when you need us.
People in this community can buy new clothes, new cars, and houses. We are lucky to be able to make our bills week in week out. We have spoke out to this community for help and we have gone even farther. Most people would rather let the BC Ambulance service die than stand behind us and fight for equal pay and our rights to have decent working conditions. $2 an hour is not even enough for us to pay off our loans for training. We are expected to make up for the loss of full time paramedics but get treated like bottle pickers. I see no support from this community for us. I have seen no letters in support of our critical campaign.
If you were forced to work for 72 hours straight you would expect to be paid more than $144.

i'm just curious as to why our two experiences at a signs were so different.I'm just a little guy, mouths to feed, paycheck to paycheck, small business man (most of my life). I'm no paramedic, I don't know what you make but surely you make more than $2 hour all day every day. Otherwise you qualify for sainthood i'm sure.
Either you or your wife probably gave anna the same attitude your giving off here. I think a career change is exactly what you need. How about food critic. Nhl Ref, Revenue canada no wait ....the post office....perfect!!!!
