Cell phone coverage in Fernie - Virgin Mobility or Fido

Hi, a couple girls from New Zealand are staying with us temporarily on Vancouver Island - they are planning to live in Fernie for the winter and beyond and looking to buy a cell phone today. I'm just wondering if companies like Virgin Mobile or Fido have coverage in the Fernie area (basic cell phone only - not data or anything like that). I got some conflicting information from Virgin so hoping to check through this forum.

fido (run on rogers network) has coverage.

not sure about virgin.

telus is the best coverage outside of Fernie.

Virgin phones work fine here as well.

thanks for the help - they bought Virgin phones and are looking forward to their move to Fernie.
