I saw the most hilerous city council meeting last night headed by Randle Mc Nair...what a bunch of monkeys! The most efficent council member was counciller Cox. it is long winded but worth the laugh. Check it out tommorow night on Shaw cable - 9pm Channel 10.
It may actually change your vote....as Ingy stated to the council, it was like a ship being headed without a captin in rough seas. When is the election for the city?

I just read the Fernie Free Press, am I am shocked. Who runs the town the people or the council.
I guess this year is not an election year!!
I Guess people in this town still don’t like to see people growing there business. Out of 146 notices that the Raging Elk sent out only 12 were in opposition and 16 in support. People only write in when you don’t like stuff and to only get 12.
I think the number speak for themselves But what do I know I am just a tax payer.

Just read the Free Press myself, I was not at the meeting but sounds like it was interesting, to say the least.
Whether or not one agrees or disagrees with the liquor applications it still behoves council to be fair to all parties, to be anything else conjures up visions of bias, the phrase "its not what you know, but who you know" springs to mind.
Kudos to Councillor Cox for stating the obvious or what should have been obvious to the Mayor and Council.
As for Councillor McSkimming's alledged statement"Let them eat Cake" Oops, sorry, wrong person, I beleive that was Marie Antonette, I understand he said "If you don't agree then you run for council" a fine example of arrogance if ever there was one, it is an election year by the way, to answer a previous writer, and it is obvious by Councillor Mcskimming statement that he does not care, mind you in my opinion, this councillor has been skating on the thin ice of conflict of interest for a while.
It also seems to me that this council, with one or two exceptions has forgotten its actual role in the City, that is to serve the electorate as fairly as possible, in my opinion this council has come to beleive that it IS the City, a dangerous assumption.

Is it usual for them to play the same city council meeting 2 weeks running? Or was it a case of damage control?
I was actually interested to see if they would play the whole meeting or try too edit it.
But this city council meeting is quite a good prelude to the next one (which is the one I was talking about), with regards to different treatment of different business owners. Ie they give The Fernie Hotel extra car parking spaces in overwaiti carpark and even mention they look forward to drinking on his patio! Where are all the concerns they had with regards to children being exposed to drinking? And should this partcular bar be allowed extra seats in their bar - 36. Is there not already an issue of fights in the Fernie Hotel?
Common fights in bar = more seats and a patio!!
Does some chamber members have fly by points at the Fernie?

I would sincerely hope that is not the case, that this was just an oversight by Shaw Cable and not done on any directive from city council or staff, because if that was the case then that is censorship in the worst way.
I know that city council is more comfortable making important descisions at thier "Committee of the whole " meetings the morning of the council meetings and I was publicly chastised by the Mayor for daring to suggest that they do not want television cameras at those meetings, yet at the televised meeting it was suggested by council that any descion making regarding the liquor applications be put off until the next committee of the whole soley to avoid the tv camera !!!!
I hope that I am proved wrong over this last fiasco and that Shaw airs the televised council meeting as it was supposed too and explains why it was missed.
I cannot beleive that even this council would pull such a stunt.
