So.. I was just in Vancouver (May 2007) and spent a day touring community gardens. Visited over 13 gardens, and since then have had a couple requests to see the photos so i've added some here...
THE SPIRIT OF NATURE SCHOOL GARDEN
LOCATION: Commercial Drive Area - Woodland & Grandview
INFO: Well cared for and well signed

MEANS OF PRODUCTION GARDEN
LOCATION: West 7th & Manitoba
INFO: Created by Environmental Youth Alliance, Currently over grown, hillside garden planted mainly with trees for food and other uses.

STRATHCONA & COTTONWOOD COMMUNITY GARDENS
LOCATION: Hawk & Prior
INFO: Huge gardens, over 200 plots, existed for 30 years, on the side of a large city park, massive orchards, bee hives, very large individual plots.

UBC COMMUNITY GARDEN
Located: University of British Columbia
INFO: 83 small plots, well cared for, pathway takes up more space than the plots.

KITSILANO COMMUNITY GARDENS
LOCATION: 6th Avenue and Arbutus, Maple & Cypress
INFO: This is a community garden hot spot. Three community gardens side by side along a set of old train tracks. Small plots, very well cared for. Next to City Farmer Demonstration Gardens.

CITY FARMER DEMONSTRATION GARDEN
LOCATION: 2150 Maple Street, Kitsilano
INFO: Incredible source of information on urban agriculture, large worm production, you NEED to check their website http://www.cityfarmer.org/

MY OWN BACKYARD (MOBY) COMMUNITY GARDEN
LOCATION: East 11th & Commercial, next to Sky train station

Looks like a nice tour. When I was living in Burnaby their was a nice community garden right by the Joyce-Collingwood Skytrain Station.
