Normally I wouldnt say anything but what happened tonite really really shocked me. Went in for dinner table of six.Waited about 15 min to get a drink. Service was ok but not great. Got the bill first couple went to pay their share. The couple left their tip with the waitress. Waitress turns to me, thats a shame. What is i ask? Well because they didnt tip enough, I am going to add gratuity on to you bill! Excuse me? Well they didnt tip enough so now I am going to add it to your bill. I couldnt believe it. Had she said you are a table of six i am going to have to add the gratuity to your bill I would have been ok. But to flat out add money to our bill cause you feel you didnt get enough astounded me. It will be a long long time before i eat there again. Especially since the owner didnt care one bit! |

Especially as the first couple left their 10%. Earn your tips folks, don't think that they are a right just because you serve a table. Sick of the crappy service in this town!

that's right tipping is just that a tip, not automatic free money. too many servers in this town just expect that tax free cash in hand it's ridiculous really. I have no problem tipping above 20% or nothing at all ....depends on the service and that said there sure is a varying degree of quality in the town!

Well well not much a surprise here.
Another over pricing Fernie business showing what they really think of your patronage.
Never impressed with the quality of food or service at the BOWL.
If you want some real good curry I suggest you try the Stanford.

We went there first but the cook is back home until October 1st and the resturant is closing on Friday until that point! Super dissapointed and frustrated with the bowl, love the food but this is enough to make me think twice about going back there.

not looking to justify poor service, but if you read the menu it is quite likely that it says
"tables of 6 or more will automatically be charged 15% gratuity"
this is fairly common practice in canadian resturants, and it is done because asking one server to balance a table of 6 people is a pain.

I was aware it said that. The waitress said she wasnt going to charge us because we were local. But because the first couple did not leave enough according to her, she added the gratuity to my bill. Tips should be earned not expected. I waitressed for 10 years, many times serving tables of 12 or more. Never did i add or expect a tip. I gave good service and was tipped accordingly.

The plain and simple fact is that she added the tip after because she didn't like what she got the first time around. She was being greedy. Her tip reflected the service. If she feels overwhelmed with how many tables she had, then talk to management about getting more serving staff. If she can't handle a table of 6 then maybe she should find a new career. I wouldn't of had any problem at all if she had put the tip on the bill beforehand. But to try and justify putting it on someone else's bill afterwards cause she didn't like what she got is just plain crap.
