After the CBM event at the Central on Jan 31st I mailed off a few letters to the Premier, our MLA and the federal environment minister. I encourage anyone that hasn't already written to express their viewpoint to do so. Below is the reply I received from the Premier. I wonder how many others have received the same or similar responses?

Thank you for your letter regarding mining and possible coalbed methane gas development in the Flathead Valley region of British Columbia. I have noted your concerns and appreciate your sharing them with me.
I would like to assure you that our government is committed to environmentally sustainable development. One of the goals of in The BC Energy Plan is to establish the best coalbed practices in North America. New technologies are helping to achieve this.
Companies that would like to develop BC's publicly-held resources must first address the environmental, social and economic value of such projects. They are required to demonstrate that they have worked with communities and First Nations to learn about local traditions and customs. In addition, companies must adhere to strict practices in the extraction process to minimize the impact on the surrounding natural habitat and physical environment.
Our government is working hard to manage BC's resource development responsibly on behalf of all British Columbians, while preserving the beautiful landscapes for which this province is internationally known. For example, we have been expanding parks and protected areas throughout BC. I have asked staff to enclose two recent brochures that outline the full scope of our initiatives to help make this province a world leader in environmental management and clean energy production.
I hope this information is helpful. Again, thank you for taking the time to write me.
Sincerely,
Gordon Campbell
Premier
