There is a clip on utube with one of the "Stars" of this movie on a US talk show comparing Fernie to the SHining, that we are in the middle of nowhere and have a population of 1500 people, all of which was employed to make this movie, generally making fun of Fernie to try and make himself look better, he and Mr Cusack owe this town an apology, oh it was really nice they chose Fernie and I am sure a lot of businesses and people appreciated the money and work but do you have to belittle a whole city and population ?

To someone from Hollywood, coming here at the end of April,it would feel like a town from The Shining. There's very little going on, some businesses are closed and most of the population have left for a holiday- so although he was a little out on the population figure, it probably wasn't that far out. And other than that, he wasn't that far off the mark.

And I have to say, I love Fernie for that. I love how quiet it is here in April and how it feels like you have the whole town to yourself, because I know how busy it will be in the winter and summer. But to him, it was just a simple truth that he made sound funny. Don't take it so seriously, it's not going to hurt Fernie in any way.

I would never take a dude who wears that much makeup, and has two first names seriously. Just sayin.

Hate to break it to you, but Fernie IS in the middle of nowhere! And that's what most people love about it.
The interview is funny. But even funnier is watching everyone get so worked up and "offended" by it. Hahaha!!!

that interview is pretty funny! I don't think anyone should be offended by 'the middle of nowhere'....like logman said, Fernie is in the middle of nowhere, and that's why we love it here!

But to refer to Fernie as "Something out of the shining" Really?

he was a little out on the population figure, it probably wasn't that far out.

Alba Really? I have never known Fernie to have as little as 1500 people.

You think he was actually told what the population of Fernie was? I think 1500 is a good guess ....... Bottom line, they got the Mayor of Fernie and a bunch of old ladies to watch a guy walking around with seman on his face. Or was it soap? Anyways... This place actually reminds me more of Tremors than The Shining.
