Wow, it actually took 90 minutes to get from the Alberta/BC boundary this evening - I know the road had been closed until 8.40pm due to some 'incident' or other, but I came through Sparwood at 10.30pm-ish and the traffic was insane. The road conditions weren't bad, but the number of vehicles was something I've never seen before on Highway 3.

So, in light of the weekend ahead of us, open this video in a new window right now (it'll help you with the tune when you're singing).

Now, let's hear your lovely renditions of the Fernie version of the Teddy Bears Picnic............ I want to hear this being shouted from snowy rooftops all across town.

[instrumental intro]

If you go up on the hill today
You're sure of a big surprise
If you go up on the hill today
You won't believe your eyes

For every Albertan that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
Today's the day the Albertans have their Family Day.

Every Albertan who's been good
Is sure of a treat today.
There's lots of marvelous runs to ski
And wonderful games to play.

Beneath the trees where nobody sees
They'll ski and ride as long as they please
'Cause that's the way the Albertans have their Family Day.

[extended instrumental interlude]

If you go up on the hill today
You surely won't be alone.
It's lovely up on the hill today
But safer to stay at home.

For every Albertan that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
Today's the day the Albertans have their Family Day.

Skiing time for Albertans
The little Albertans are having a lovely time today
Watch them, catch them unawares
And see them skiing on their holiday.

See them gaily gad about
They love to play and shout;
They never have any care;

At one o'clock their Mummies and Daddies,
Will take them home to bed,
Because they're tired little Albertans.
