Just want to know does anyone have any new info on what is up with this project? I know they needed to do some land swapping with the dump but I do not know if that is still the hold up. I have even heard a rumor about Norman pulling out of the project. Blackstones website has been idle for months and this golf course was to be open for play in 2007 if you look back at the first plans. Just wanted to have some info from all you smart people who are more in the know than I am. Thanks for any info |

They have been working on the project, building roads etc., and will be moving into their office space downtown this spring. Land transactions take time, it's a process......especially when finding an alternative land transfer station area is near impossible. While they may have jumped the gun on marketing, it is still 100% moving forward.

You may be interested to learn that the developers responsible for Blackstone have recently acquired the land in the Ridgemont Cut-Block (above ridgemont subdivision)... I think we may be hearing some big news soon.

Ah, that purchase was a strategic move. If they didn't purchase that land, there were others that would have with motives to build another golf course or an independent ski hill. By purchasing that parcel, and others in Fernie as this group has, they have increased their control and decreased the likely hood of competition.

I see development happening on the golf course. I'd like to see what the plans are for the area and would like any information there is on what the layout and plans.

Greg Norman is indeed out and has been replaced by a very serious designer - check out his website, which mentions Fernie: - http://www.dmkgolfdesign.com/home.aspx
He designs only a few very high-end courses, as opposed to sticking his name on hundreds of them...
The best info on the development is in the most recent Fernie Fix, which includes an interview with Reto Barrington, the developer.
I don't think anyone will be swinging a club up there for a couple of years, however...

I'd heard the same re Greg Norman and dmk. Work is definitely underway up there and will be all winter, but yes, it may be a few years yet before they are open for business.
Reto Barrington will be the guest speaker at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon on January 17th. Contact the Chamber to book seats to attend. The last luncheon sold out, this one is bound to get just as much attention.
