The 40 days before Easter - obviously not including Sundays as they're days of 'celebration' and so we ignore them in terms of doing something we might not like - are the days of Lent. Lent is a time when Christians remember the 40 days and nights Jesus spent alone in the desert without food being tempted by the Devil. Jesus used this time to prepare for His work by fasting and praying. I found that last paragraph online somewhere, I'm a bit of a closet atheist myself so I didn't really know what it was all about; may a lightning bolt strike me next time I'm snowboarding at high altitude. So, given that the excitement all starts this very week... what are *you* giving up for Lent? |

As proud atheist nothing why give up something when all that happens in the end is death. Nietzsche will be happy to know his disciples live on.

As a child, my siblings and I were forced to give up chocolate and other sweets. Of course we cheated at every opportunity. After all, as Catholics we were told God forgives your sins. But then again, what kind of a god would consider eating chocolate to be a sin?

I actually went to Trinidad for the celebrations. Second largest behind Rio. After that week, there is a lot you want to give up.
