With the beauty clear day, I was scanning the mountains with my spotting scope. I realized that the Moccasin hasn't slid yet this year. I think it will redefine its slide path when it does. Open things up a little thats for sure. |

Where is Moccasin located?

On Mt Fernie. It is the foot shaped slide path on the left side of Mt Fernie as you look from town.

Often it doesn't cut loose until march. But your right when it does go it will go huge, right to the ground.

Could someone take a photo of Mt Fernie, ring the Moccasin and post it up here. All summer long I was hiking Mt Fernie (well, four times anyway) and every time we were at the Moccasin my buddies proclaimed "here we are, the Moccasin" and yet despite lining up various sights downtown from up on the mountain, it seemed impossible to do the same in reverse from downtown. I couldn't identify it

Moccasin slid earlier this year. Can't remember the date but it went to ground once already.

Oh yea, That was the early December rain. As for locating the Moccasin, It is much more apparent from the ski hill and I don't think we can post pictures.
I actually disagree with the Moccasin not sliding till March. It slides or glides in almost every warm spell and definitely whenever we get significant rain.

why not post a photo here http://www.ourfernie.com/image and add a link so that we can all work out where Moccasin is.

There is now a glide crack on the Moccasin. It is the crack in the snowpack that looks like a frown. Should help with location.
