I have something that I need to pick up in Montana, but I don't think I'll be able to go for a little while...is there a community ride board style thing where people come together to pick up each others packages?

I'd just post a classified ad on this site.

Hate to tell you, but if you choose to shop in the States, then you should move there, because you live in this great country and you expect the best medical care and educational system, and the best roads to drive on and so on and so on, but yet you refuse to contribute to these privilages. Keep the cross border shopping alive and face no medical care when you're old and dying and crappy education for your kids.........

As a world citizen I take advantage of what the market place has to offer. Where are you selling your shrimp these days anyway?

Really? World citizen? I hear things are pretty cheap in Iraq :-/ I sell my shrimp here in Canada and btw dont bother bringing your stinky defective shrimp to my store for warranty, you'll just have to drive back to the states to deal with it..... See how far your savings will go.

Iraq, nope, the shipping is killer. From the US I can have just about anything in 4 days. Go with an empty gas tank and actually save more on fuel than you burn. Almost like getting paid for the drive lol.

I agree with Buzz! Drive down to the states save on shipping. fill up your car, buy some groceries. Which usually are WAY less than what you would pay at Overwaitea! And of course a 6 pack of beer usually for 5.99

You can laugh all you want, and think you're getting away with something, but Bubbagump is right....you'll see eventually...and actually, much sooner than you think. We are all in for a big shock here as far as either tax hikes and/or cutbacks and user fees. In a few months from now, I'll repost this as an "I told you so"...

For many products the extra taxes we may pay here in Canada are a small portion of the price discrepancy. The largest portion is the take of the middlemen and some blatant price gouging. Look at the difference in the price of cars and especially car parts. For example the lowest price of some heads for a chev 350 here was $825. The going rate in the US was $500 and the best price was $425. That difference is far more than import duties and taxes and a reasonable profit, of which duties and taxes are still collected at the border. The wholesale importers in the retail sector need to be hit hard for the prices to reflect where they should be. Unfortunately the retail outlets get hit in the crossfire as consumers are often able to buy out of the US for cheaper than the retailer can buy from their suppliers. A very frustrating situation for many of them as they cannot just go get their inventory from the US, but must buy through the middleman and their representative network. People are tired of being gouged by the retail network we currently have, and the only avenue to change this is for consumers to fight with their hard earned dollars. It is not a matter of getting away with something, but rather a means to combat a system that is unfairly targeting consumers and end retailers.
As for cutbacks and user fees, there is a whole raft of government waste and entitlements, from the federal right down to the municipal level that should be addressed. But that is a whole different discussion.
