the government bottle shop is normally the cheapest, so I would still go there, unless it was after their regular hours or I wanted something that the gov bottle shop didn't stock.

just a note: 'liquor store' or 'beer and wine store' would be more appropriate terms than 'bottle shop'

And I always go to the gov one; as freshnow said, it's usually the cheapest (but the hours aren't always accomodating). The Fernie hotel's beer & wine store moving there won't influence me to go, but I think it would give them more exposure to tourists, as their current location is sort of hidden.

I have found that some things are cheaper at the Fernie's bottle shop than the gov one. They tend to have less selection tho so I usually go to the gov shop. I doubt we'd ever loose the gov bottle shop since you can buy booze from them for an event and return it at the end if you don't open it. I also imagine it's offered as a service instead of a major money making enterprise.

There's nothing wrong with saying "bottle shop" vs "liquor store". Some times when I'm there I wait in line and other times I wait in the queue, It just depends on who I'm there with.

I've never heard a liquor store called a bottle shop before. I will still shop the gov store as much as possible. The government store provides fairly good paying jobs with benefits for those who work there, while the private one pays close to minimum wage and charges more for their goods. Also the service level is much higher at the gov store, the people in there are quite knowledgeable about the products they sell.

BTW I've never seen any product cheaper in a private store...but then again it's very seldom I ever shop at one.

It will be nice to have a shop in that space, it was an eyesore.

Good point V! It's been empty far too long. I thought it was a bit odd when I first heard about it, but it's moving less than half a block from its current location, so I can't see it making much difference. Between the hours, prices and chillers, the two places will each offer a different service.

I agree. I also had no idea what you guys were talking about with 'bottle shop', hence the reason I made my previous comment.

The service is very good at the gov one and they are extremely knowledgeable. I can go in there and tell them what type of wine I am looking for (for a gift, etc) and they always direct me to a good choice. I find that the private beer & wine stores usually employ someone who is barely legal to drink and doesn't even know the difference between white and red wine. I only go to these stores if it is a last resort because the government one is closed, or if I just need something like a case of beer.
