Here is an update on the Outhouse Puppies story. For some photos of one puppy and his own local controversy go to Steve Short's blog. Trial of woman accused of throwing puppies in outhouse told accused in accident PINCHER CREEK, Alta. — A woman charged with throwing five puppies down an outhouse pit has been seriously injured in a car accident in British Columbia, court was told Tuesday. But the man representing Samantha Reiberger in court refused to provide details of the accident — including where and when it happened and what hospital she is recovering in. Reiberger, 42, and Frederick Hoath, 57, face charges after five puppies were found in the pit of an outhouse in freezing conditions on Jan. 4, near the Alberta-B.C. boundary along Highway. 3. The puppies were rescued in a lengthy operation that saw the outhouse dismantled. The canines all survived and have since been adopted. Crowsnest Pass resident Tim Grier once again appeared as Reiberger’s agent, informing the court that she was involved in a serious car crash near Vancouver. Reiberger was in “stable” condition at an undisclosed Vancouver hospital, and had recently undergone 10 hours of orthopedic surgery as a result of the accident, said Grier. He added she wouldn’t be fit to be transferred to an Alberta hospital for two to three weeks. Grier confirmed Reiberger’s residence in Crowsnest Pass was vacated and listed for sale. The agent was ordered by the court to provide Reiberger’s current address and phone number, as well as what hospital she could be reached at in Vancouver. Hoath is scheduled to be back in court April 1.(Calgary Sun) |

The wheels of justice move slowly. This is now the 3rd court appearance...
Not guilty plea in puppy outhouse case
CALGARY - A B.C. man charged with animal cruelty after a litter of puppies was thrown into the hole of an outhouse has pleaded not guilty.
Frederick Hoath, 57, of Fernie entered the plea in Pincher Creek provincial court on Tuesday. His is now scheduled to go to trial on Aug. 25.
A co-accused, Samantha Rieberger, 42, of Crowsnest Pass, has reserved her plea and is next scheduled in court on May 6.
The charges stem from an incident on Jan. 4, when a motorist stopping to use a rest stop on Highway 3 heard whimpering and found five black Labrador pups in the pit beneath the roadside toilet.
All five dogs have been adopted and fully recovered from their ordeal.
