With the ski hill closing the earliest ever in its entire operating history, so comes with it a forced earliest ever Powder Pedal Paddle Relay Race.

I was looking at the river the other day, and there is ALOT of ice that needs to melt before I would consider boating down it. Some places are outright frozen over.

Although it has been quite spring like the past few weeks, we all know that this isn't going to last. We are going to see another blast of winter, and I just don't see the river being in the right condition to hold an amateur paddling race in in less than a month.

Wonder if FAR has thought of this?

I don't see them canceling, and we still have a month for the ice to clear some. My only concern is that the flow will be very low and the poor suckers paddling will have a heck of a workout without much help from the current Smiling

You are kidding me? And rumours of no mountain biking in summer either? Good grief, what next, sorry the ski hill isn't opening for the Winter of 2008/09 as the trees are too dangerous?

PLEASE could someone put an end to rumours and get some official information from somewhere.

As for the website still mentioning the event on April 5th, remember that the RCR website is *still* promoting a Terrain Park at Fernie despite the fun being cancelled many months ago.

well FAR sure as hell doesn't reply e-mails , they are pretty useless bunch really , so how can you get real info from them, if you call nobody is around to answer questions or return phone calls ........why is that?

We're from the UK and would love to put a team in as we've been here all season and have failed miserably on Aussie day / Dummy Downhill... - if only to add some international flavour! A couple of questions:

Can a snowboarder replace a skier (we can hammer those cat tracks!)?

is there anywhere we can hire a playboat / kayak / canoe for the day (noting some of the comments above)

Cheers!

I once rented a couple of kayaks from Board Stiff, believe it or not. It was way back in the spring of 2002 so I dunno if they've still got anything. The guys in there didn't even realise they had them for hire back then, so who knows... but worth a try. They were decent and supplied the full kit.

I would have thought there was somewhere else in town these days though that would have caught on to the idea of renting out kayaks... or maybe not? Anyone?
