Proposed Business tax/levy increases

All Fernie businesses should be aware of a proposal by the Destination marketing group and apparently backed by the Mayor and City council to levy a surcharge over and above the current business license rates and also a proposal to levy a .25c sq ft charge on all business premises to pay for the marketing of Fernie to the world, there is also I hear, a proposed "pillow" tax for any establishment with beds ie; hotels, motels b&b's, all I am saying is before any of this is passed or discussed any further EVERY business in Fernie or every business that holds a business license should be contacted and allowed to vote on all or any proposal that spends their money, contact your councillors, ask questions, ask for the proposed rates, they are apparently there, I am being told that trades people for instance could be faced with a surcharge or tax of $250.00 over and above the business license !!!!
