Well RCR has done it again.. they managed to slip in yet another pass price hike for season passes and day passes. Although they have replaced their "holiday pricing" scam with a night skiing rate only available over the holiday season. (how they can get away with calling two flood lights on the mighty moose night skiing is a whole other story!)

And to top it all off they also slipped in a reduction in our end of season date by yet another week to April 6th. Historically our season has ended around the 20th of april.

Yet another case of getting less and less for more and more from RCR........ way to go guys!

Seriously, don't get a pass... we all know its not worth it, just spend the $$ on either touring gear, and just tour all over, or buy a sled. i intend to do both

RCR will always find a way to take from Fernie and give to anywhere but here. RCR has been here how long and what do they have to show for it? Lost Boys Cafe. Wow $8 sandwiches.

Hmmm, as much as we all love to hate RCR, and there's zero chance I'll defend them on all the bad shit and price hikes etc.. I do think that's a little unfair on the 'what have they given us' front... I for one am glad to have the 'new' side of the hill to ride on when I feel like it (tho I prefer the old!) and I'm very grateful for the Great Bear Express instead of the T-bar I had to ride up that bit of the hill when I first started coming to Fernie.

I'm not quite sure why we've still got Elk Chair though. It's a comedy how many times that thing breaks down.

Oh, and while I'm here, I gotta say that switching the name of The Mean Bean to the Slopeside was the most dumb ass thing ever, though I know the reasons behind the name change. I think there's loads of us around who still call it the Bean huh?

Well I think we could all see this one coming from about a million miles off.

By the end of the season RCR figure they are not making any more money out of us season pass holders so they are only interested in day ticket sales. With Easter coming early this year it was a cert that they would call the season to the end as soon as they could. Don't know when Easter is in 2009 but assuming it's a bit later I guess we will get a later closing date so they can milk the last buck out of their customers before closing.

I'm afraid we are going to have to live with this as long as the hill is run by a real estate company that regards the hill as an inconvenient distraction they have to keep going in order to boost real estate prices.

it isn't fair to say that RCR has done nothing for this town.. they do alot. Wether what they have been done is good is something to ponder. Could they do it better? probably.

RCR isn't a real estate company. They haven't done ANY real estate development here in Fernie since it was taken over by Mr. Edwards the oil tycoon. Why they haven't done any real estate development is another one to ponder over.

The cutting the season short because they don't make money off of season pass holders is pretty much the biggest in your face kick in the nuts move that could be done.... goes to show how much they "care about the community".

Where did you hear Fernie is closing on
April 6th? (not that it would surprise me in the least) But is it a fact or just a rumor. I looked on their website quickly and never saw anything about closing dates.

Yup, it figures. The hill used to always try to stay open till the third week in April. The last 2 weeks as a rule were pretty dead,95% seasons pass holders on the mountain. From a business dollars and cents stand point it makes sense. But as far as public relations goes it sucks, not that RCR is big on public relations anyway.

I don't think they really care if they sell seasons passes anyway, the big money is in the tour groups, lodging, and day ticket sales.

Probably the next thing we'll see is them not opening up until the Christmas season. The first 2 weeks it's pretty much all pass holders on the mountain too.

It's crappy but there is not a lot we can do about it. I guess I head to Moab a week sooner next year.

unless the Mean Bean Changed it's name, it would have been sued, as there was already a Mean Bean somewhere else..(to answer to a previous comment..)
