"Hello, I am almost 9 and on Friday night my bike was stolen from our carport in the Elkview area of the airport. I know you think you were having fun, but now I can’t bike to my friends, to school and my two sisters and my Mom can’t ride the trails with me. So now the whole family is grounded because of your STUPID SELFISH actions. Why should my Mom have to save up to buy me a new bike because of you? Don’t be mean and bring it back PLEASE…………" Hmmm, so there you have it, a very unhappy child this weekend, makes you feel good doesn't it..........?! Hello families, On Friday night X had her bike stolen from our car port in the Elkview area of the airport. Of course we are all devastated, as we can no longer bike as a family or cycle to school. Please could you keep an eye out for it? It is not a very grand bike - bright yellow, with BONELLI written on the frame, black seat held together with duct tape and right gears twisted round! Please let me know if you see it anywhere. In the meantime, while I save up for a new bike, if any of you have a spare 20” (I think) mountain bike that you would consider lending or are selling, please let me know. Thanks everyone! |

This is becoming more and more common. My daughter's bike was stolen from our yard last year so we bought a her a new one for Christmas. This spring the new one was also taken from our (fenced) yard. I can't believe the disrespect that happens to anything not under lock and chain in this town. Good luck finding a new one, I wish I could help.

Thx supermom! Yeah, I wish I had the answers to this sort of thing. In May 2007 I aprehended two youths trying to break into my car and house!!! It's amazing! Anyhow, best I don't catch anybody in the act of stealing from me or my neighbours..... Wonder what the RCMP have to say on the rising petty crime in Fernie?

Time to start a neighbour hood watch program. I would be devastated if something was stolen from my kids. We currently keep the bicyles in my basement, because I was worried after hearing off all the bikes the get stolen around here during the summer months. I already had to clean up some broken glass bottles on the road outside my house from kids drinking outside and tossing their beer bottles.
It's sad.

Hmm, I wonder just how big a problem this is and how big it's going to become? Any thoughts/feedback/stories/ideas guys?

I think the biggest problem is parents who are naive to what their chilren are up to. When a child comes home with clothes, bikes, and other objects that don't belong to them do you ask them where they came from? You obviously pay your child an allowance, or at least should be supervising the amount of money they accumulate through a part-time job. Parents needs to crack down on their children... too many young kids ( 14-17 ) are running around the street later than 10 oclock. What's up with that? I undestand that it's summer holidays, but where are the parental restrictions? I see some kids at the park yelling and goofing around close to 2oclock in the morning. Who is teaching these kids right from wrong?
Parents.... if you child comes home with a new bike, and you ask them where it came from. Do some research. If little Jonny tells you that Suzie lent him her bike, call Suzies parents to confirm! If it didn't come from her, check the stolen bike lists on these website. Chances are your little jonny is up to no good.

With our bike though, it was a drunken joy ride at least one of the times. Too drunk to walk home from the party, hop on the bike and make your friends laugh at the ridiculously small bike and then it probably ended up in the river.

There's a red mountain bike just leaning against the curb past 901 Fernie on Second Ave.
Anyone lose a red bike?

during the sunnier days, we were rafting down the river and almost directly across the river from Riverside on the shore was a bike that we saw for about a week straight. We haven't been down there since, so we don't know if it's still there, nor do we remember the color or anything, but it might be worth a look...

If anyone is missing a bike, there is a bike in the alleyway between the Grand Central Hotel and the Vogue Theatre. It has been there since Thursday morning.
