Thanks a lot to everyone who helped with Taste of Fernie this year. I had a really great time and so did everyone else from what I could tell! Can't wait for next year. |

I can understand some places not doing it this year. Lots of them are understaffed and just couldn't. What I wanted to know what where was the vegetarian food? I had to have chocolate and beer for dinner! Not that it was too bad...

I like the taste of Fernie. Its a great thing for Fernie to do. What i dont understand is, the need to charge for a wristband. Whyn ot just charge for the food. To pay for a wristband and to get a beer would have cost 9 dollars. That to me is ridiculous. You lost my support. I went to a restaurant that stayed open and gave them my money.

5 dollars from everyone probably went a long way for the Taste of Fernie. I don't know, but I'm assuming that money went to the Arts Station to help fund different programs, maybe it went to the costs associated with putting on an event like the Taste of Fernie - tents, toilets, clean up, licenses, etc.
Personally, I am more than happy to pay a few extra dollars knowing that it is helping to support local community events like this one.

ya, $5 is nothing! somebody has to pay for the event to go on..
Whistler has a similar event called cornucopia and tickets are $100 plus

alunastar... next year you can save the $5 entry/donation fee by volunteering to assist with the event.

alunstar... It used to cost money just to get in the door to the Taste of Fernie and no one complained. For the last three years it's been free to come and watch entertainment from noon 'til 11pm. If you want to buy food from the restaurants or drink in the beer tent a $5 donation is asked for to help defray costs and to support the Arts Council and the Rotary Club - both non-profit groups that work in the community supporting dozens of other groups, events and causes.
While I'd love to have a free event, it just isn't possible. Right now it costs upwards of $30,000 to put on. There's just no way the event could run without charging something. Not only that, but it costs the restaurants that are participating quite a bit of money to close their restaurants and pay their staff just so the community can have a great party.
On the other hand, the restaurant that you went to and ate at didn't have to put any time or money into the Taste of Fernie and yet they got tons of business thanks to the promotional work of volunteers and other restaurants willing to put out for the community. I sure hope that you let them know how much you appreciated their food - if not their community spirit.
I respect your opinion, but without fund raising events there'd be no organization to support arts or culture in this community. And I think that's worth $5.

Really? We're complaining about $5? Wow, it amazes me how we are so ready to criticize without knowing the facts. The amount of time and effort that goes into these types of events - all of it voluntary. The organization, marketing and creative support that we, the end user, do not see but hopefully recognize. Should they have to advertise this to the community? No, we should understand and appreciate. We attend the event, enjoy the food, drink and social aspects of it and thank those involved for having created a cultural, community event. One that brings more members of our community together than any other.
Thanks Kevin and the crew! It was a blast.

Another great event!! Cheap at twice the price. Seems to me though, that as the event grows it gets more difficult for organizers ,volunteers, and restaurants to keep up. The double edged sword of success. Everyone looks for bigger and better and it gets more difficult to deliver. Hats off to all who made it what it was.
My only complaint was the evening music. Very difficult to party to. Most would like music that would get them to want to get up and dance and boogie. Not quite what we got.
