I find it rather interesting that the province is now making the RCMP withdraw its current tazers, or the majority of them because of them not working correctly, they say that they are actually too weak ?? more than a coincidence, whilst the inquiry into the Vancouver Airport incident is still ongoing, is this a ploy to defuse possible lawsuits pending on that case ? seems to me that there still could be some form of coverup going on.

It never ceases to amaze me how some subjects either seem taboo or people just don't care, but the tasering of Robert Dujkanski( not sure of the spelling) really did upset me, not only the fact that he died, which is certainly bad enough but the fact that the RCMP have tried to cover it up, to discredit his name and now it seems, there is an email from top cops confirming that the decision to taser was made prior to arrival at the airport !!! this whole episode is a disgrace, these officers should be held accountable for thier actions, what concerns me apart from all of the above is if people do not speak out against incidences like this it could just get worse, who is next if some rogue cops decide to practice with thier latest weapons, Canada has always been a beacon to the world for human rights and being a multi racial society, if we allow things like this to continue where do we end up ? watch the news lately ? Iran, China. The above is just my opinion of what has happened I just wish more people would speak out via emails, forums etc, freedom is too precious to just give away.

Alright Dave, I'll bite. I think you're right, evil succeeds when good men do nothing...or something like that. I can't say I've followed the topic, all I know is that I frequently hear about tasers doing a lot of damage, if not killing people. I think the whole concept is pathetic. If someone pulls a gun on a cop, the cops pull their guns. I've yet to see someone pull a taser on the cops. These people getting tasered don't seem to be people that are on a rampage blowing things up or hurting people. They seem to be drunk guys, people selling illegal things, sometimes its just someone having a bad day. They get tasered, and some die. Pulling out a taser and putting someones life on the line because they're thinking irrationally is brutal. If someone decides to get physical with a cop while unarmed and the cop can't handle it I suggest they start training them better before they get on the force. Teach them how to fight and teach them how to handle people so that they don't get aggressive with them. If that doesn't work, let the guy go and catch him later when you've got some back up. I recently watched a video from somewhere in the states that showed a cop tasering a 72 year old woman because she was swinging at him. Then it showed to police chief saying the officer did exactly what he was trained to do. Someone must have left out the chapter on common sense when they made the training manual. I'd venture to guess there are stricter laws when it comes to tasering animals then tasering humans.

when it comes down to it , The Taser was only made for the cops once they all started to get fat and lazy , its the easy way out for them and nothing else,,,, once we open our eyes and see these guards as they really are guards , then we shall really under stand whts happening.
I have heard that the gov. wants to put the R.C.M.P in the place of local search and rescue , there for upping the troops in each little hamlet under the cover of good, something crazy is happening and the chess board is getting hot...........

The Taser is one item on the continuum of force which in rough order goes bare hands, pepper spray, Taser, night stick or baton and lastly the gun.

I think the police started using tasers after too many people received crippling or fatal head, leg and body blows from clubs. The pepper spray is to indiscriminate, it can hit a number of people in an enclosed space including other officers.

Now the trick for the police will be to find an alternative before crippling or killing people with billy clubs returns to the headlines.

The comment about fat cops with tasers reminded me of this incident

Thats such a perfect example. 3 cops vs 1 naked guy and instead of just dragging him off to the cruiser kicking and screaming, which no doubt they could have done, they taser him. Again, someone acting weird but not doing anyone any harm.

So, no public reaction or even much media reaction to the recent settlement by the RCMP on the Dukanski affair in Vancouver, effectively the RCMP bought the poor mothers silence, the 4 police officers jobs and stopped an potentially image damaging( if thats possible) law suit, chalk up one for the RCMP.
I personally find it disgusting, one that they actually pulled this off and two that no one is asking any questions.
Taxpayers dollars used to buy the silence and no public disclosure as to how much, I am not saying the mother should not have got anything, but it should have been made public, it was not to protect her but rather to protect the RCMP.
There is still the question of the lead cop of this 4 being invloved with a fatal road accident prior to all this and leaving the scene of an accident, he had been drinking apparently but left and came back, if you or I tried that, wonder what we would be charged with and would it take over a year to do so, people do not care anymore, media does not care anymore, the RCMP wonders publicly what they can do to improve thier public image ?? one thing they could do would be to have one law for everyone not selective justice for members.
