Turn your car off!

It's 4:45 on Monday afternoon and parked around Scotia bank I count three cars idling. It's 5 degrees outside. Please think of the environment, of future generations and turn your car off!

If these cars belong to the loved ones of bank employees and are idling waiting for them-shame on you for caring so little for the community you make your livelihood in.

I challenge everyone to treat all of Fernie like an idle free zone.

Thanks for the tip there David Suzuki, although I think there are far bigger things to worry about.

Precisely the attitude we need. Why not worry it's easier to accomplish than simple action. Take and relish your worry, I'll take action, any day.

Unless you live in a tree house or a mudhut with no electricity or water, walk everywhere you go and grow all your own food, you
(and I don't mean you specifically..people in general) are in no position to get all preachy and pissy with people about their impact on the environment. Take a look at yourself and don't be all self righteous. Collateral damage to the environment is an inescapable result of sustaining the life we ALL live and enjoy. You can pick any issue to bitch about, and this one is a drop in the bucket, there are far bigger things to worry about, and hardly any of us would be willing to sacrifice even a fraction of what we have in order to deal with it.

There's always bigger things to worry about. Doesn't mean we shouldn't worry about the small things.

Turning off your engine when your vehicle is not moving is about the easiest way to contribute to a more environmentally responsible community that I can possibly think of, so why on earth would you not do it?

You should have just taken care of the problem right then and there, jump in, shut'er off and throw the keys in the Elk river! but then your littering and contradicting yourself.

Where in my post do I say not to do it? Of course it's a good idea, and I do it always...what I don't like is hypocrisy...people who pollute (and we ALL do in some way) telling others not to.

well, apart from the fact that you made it 'sound' like you don't think it's necessary, (remember, all I had to go on was you getting pissed at someone for suggesting that people should shut their engines off- I don't know what you do or don't do in your own car) some stuff doesn't occur to people unless it's spelled out to them. Not everyone is as smart as you.

Don't forget, your dog pollutes more than your SUV!

Pretty Sure my dogs a Hybrid, That being said it is very easy to turn you car/truck off when parked or waiting for a train. I have even seen some towns going as far as removing drive thru's from fast food stores to reduce emissions.. there's and idea..
