I have friends in Calgary that don't come here because their is no terrain park at the ski hill. They go to sunshine and lake louise instead.

Parks are still fun to ride even when there hasn't been a snowfall for along time.

A lot of businesses in Fernie need tourism to survive and with the state of our economy and less people traveling I don't think it makes much sense to discourage people from visiting Fernie.

And FYI for any out-of-towners reading this, we do have snow, (Over 3m to date this season and a 163cm snowpack, with all areas open,) and it snowed on the mountain yesterday.

We just haven't had a 30cm powder dump this week - which pretty much equates to "No Snow" to us spoilt-rotten locals. As they say, an average day in Fernie is better than a good day anywhere else.

Yes we have a decent base and the mountain is wide open. But no we have not had any snow on the mountain at all in the past few weeks I don't know where you got that info from Alba.

Its true, alot of businesses in Fernie do rely on the tourism dollars, its unfortunate one of the major players in the business doesn't "step it up" and do a better job at keeping them coming back.

Good point wrender, park is definitley a big reason why people don't come here anymore, it sure gives riders another option in snow drought times like right now.

its always fun.... but given the conditions (everywhere in BC) I could have fun at any other ski area for substantially cheaper right now.

I know I have alot of friends that always want to come to Fernie, but when the look at the prices they often end up at other places (whistler, kicking horse, revelstoke)

I guess another reason why they don't come to Fernie is because they don't offer reciprocal season pass discounts (20%) as are offered at all non RCR resorts across BC.

I talked to a guy from England on the chair last week. He said he understood ski conditions are what they are, but couldn't understand why FAR charges so much. He said he could go skiing in Europe at a 'real' resort for less money.

Given the state of the economy now, combine it with a bad snow year or two...and don't offer much 'bling bling' for the consumers dollar? Who knows this may be the end of RCR as we know it?? Oil is down to $34 a barrel so things aren't to rosy in the patch for Murray either!

If overseas customers stop coming and Calgarians start tightening their purse strings because the sky is falling in Alberta..........

To add to the list in the first posting in regards to why people don't come to Fernie

7. Getting called a bitch at the local bar by the foreign bouncer

I have just realized why my local friends enjoy home gatherings vs. going out to support the bar scene here. It's a shame these bars are so poorly managed. Except for the Brickhouse . .I LOVE THE BRICKHOUSE!!!

I hear you on this one. I got told it is a "privilege" to work in hospitality in Fernie and that's why some guys got to go in ahead of me when I was at the front of the line. Don't piss off the locals man!
