The Free Press changes ownership - but local news focus will continue

The Free Press has changed ownership effective July 1, after being bought by Victoria-based Black Press from the Vancouver-based Glacier Media Group.

Publisher Pierre Pelletier has reassured readers that the business is "a very profitable operation" and its focus will continue to be coverage of the local community in the Elk Valley and South Country under the new umbrella of Black Press.

Staff at the newspapers were informed of the decision on Friday.
