Held each winter since 1978, Griz Days is Fernie’s annual winter festival. The festival celebrates the community’s connection to winter and the legendary mountain man, the Griz —a hero in these parts— who with the help of his musket helps coax the snow from the sky, gracing the region with an astounding annual snowfall of over 29 feet annually.
Events include:
Thursday 6th
Cabaret dinner and show - $40 dinner & show, Show only $15. 6/7.30pm at the Arts Station.
Friday 7th
Griz Days parade - 7pm start, 2nd Ave.
Saturday 8th
10am-4pm Craft Fair at the Community centre - Admission - Griz Pin ($2.)Events to be held throughout the day including Pancake breakfast, Baby Griz Race and Junior Griz Competition.
10am Youth Street Hockey at the Aquatic Centre.
10am Griz Bridge Tourney at the Snr's drop in Centre, $18 includes lunch.
11am-6pm Scavenger Hunt, finish at the Fernie Museum.
11am-9pm Extreme Griz Competition held at various bars, with crowning at the Park Place Pub at 9pm.
11am Snowmobile Drag Races at Riverside, $5 entry.
Noon Mens Ball Hockey at the Park Place Lodge.
3-5pm Jr Griz Olympics Pool Party at the Aquatic Centre.
3pm Arm Wrestling Smackdown at the Fernie Hotel, Griz pin required for entry.
Community Snow Sculptures will be on display throughout the city.
Sunday March 9th
12.30pm Dummy Downhill Race at FAR
Griz pins are still on sale and can be found throughout the community. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Griz pins will go toward Rotary Club initiatives in Fernie.
