International compost awareness week

May 3rd to May 9th 2009 is International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) across the globe. The largest and most comprehensive event in the compost industry, it plays a huge part in bringing the compost message to the attention of the public, local businesses and other groups.

Over the last 13 years International Compost Awareness Week has grown in strength, interest and importance. Landfills around the world are at their limits and this includes us here in the Elk Valley. Composting is paramount to the reduction of trash entering our landfills. Canada is now seeing large scale private and public composting initiatives take flight as well as huge numbers of local home-owners establishing
back-yard composting year round.

Compost is here, its easy and the general public can do it too.
Composting in the Elk Valley is easy and effective. Animal-proofing and a few simple techniques keep local wildlife at bay. Brochures and a Compost Eductaion Tea Party to be in effect during ICAW.
