Avalanche Awareness Days 2010 - presented by Canadian Pacific.

The Canadian Avalanche Centre (CAC), in partnership with Canadian Pacific, presents Avalanche Awareness Days—a celebration of Canada’s avalanche safety expertise and an invitation to enjoy the winter backcountry with education and training.

This year our National Event will be held at Fernie Alpine Resort on January 8-10, 2010 with simultaneous sledder event held at a local Fernie snowmobile area (TBD). Come out to Fernie and participate in the field demonstrations including beacon searches, shoveling techniques, snowpit demos and CARDA dog demonstrations on the slopes of Fernie and the snowmobile trails. Prizes to be awarded and a silent auction fundraiser party will have your favorite gear and beer!

Building avalanche awareness and encouraging avalanche education is central to our firm belief that all Canadians deserve a chance to enjoy the natural beauty of our mountains. Working with our community partners, we collectively play a vital role in establishing western Canada’s reputation as a pre-eminent winter tourism destination.

Through Canadian Pacific's exceptional corporate commitment to avalanche safety and education, we have been able to spread our message of avalanche awareness and education to a wider audience each year. With CP’s support, we were also able to provide assistance to over 40 local Avalanche Awareness Days events across Western Canada. The CAC is pleased that this event continues to highlight CP’s history and current connection to avalanche safety.
