The Lions Demolition Derby and the Taste of Fernie are two of Fernie's favourite events and will happen just two weeks apart
On August 31st head to the Fernie Rodeo Grounds (behind the Best Western) for a day of smash-em-up fun and games. Competitors come from all over the area with their stripped out vehicles to participate in several last-man-standing events.
Featuring:
* truck round
* small car round
* powderpuff round for the ladies
* several heats leading to the finals
With doors smashed in, tailgates trailing in the mud and wheels running at angles you never want to see on the road, the teams will fly around the grounds spraying dirt in every direction, trying to avoid being knocked out and aiming for every bumper they can bash off. This is one of Fernie's best loved days where friends and family pack the bleachers to cheer on the blood and mayhem.
The Lions Demolition Derby will take place on August 31st 2008 from 12 noon at the Fernie Rodeo Grounds.
Adults $7.50, seniors & students $5, under 10 free.
$3000 in prize money! Refreshment and concessions on site.
Call 423 4627 or (after 8pm) 423 3052 for more information or to enter a vehicle.
Just one week later it's time to change gears a start revving up your tastebuds for a Fernie staple, the Taste of Fernie. This event features the best of Fernie's dining in sample sized portions and will also include the Fernie Fest to keep you entertained.
Featuring:
* BBQ Challenge on Friday evening
* Artisan Market participant (much expanded)
* Live entertainment on stage
* Puppets
* Fernie's finest dining
* Kids Activities
* Beverage tent
* BC150 – a birthday show, local performers including musicians, singers, dancers and comedians who will display their talents on stage.
