WHATS UP WITH “THE CEDARS” BOUNDARY EXTENSION PROPOSAL?

First and foremost, there is a referendum vote on November 25th at the Holy Family Center from 8 am to 8 pm. The vote is to determine whether or not the properties shown on the map will become part of the City of Fernie. We would like to encourage all of the citizens of Fernie to become informed about this important decision and of course to come out and vote on November 25th.

The Cedars will be developed to take into account the strong environmental values that are important in our community. It must be remembered that the land is privately owned, and has been designated for the future Urban Expansion of the City of Fernie. This parcel will be developed. The question is what type of development is best for this particular parcel of land?

For Belay Enterprises the environment is the paramount factor in our development proposal. Conservation Subdivision Design will be combined with a binding covenant to identify, and preserve forever, the most important environmental and ecological aspects of the land. With a traditional development, the goal is to maximize the development footprint. Typically it fails to take into account how the land deals with rain water, small ecosystems and wildlife corridors. The Conservation Design being utilized by ‘The Cedars” will take all of these factors into account by providing 50% green space and allowing the land itself to dictate where development will occur.

Belay Enterprises is dedicated to creating a neighbourhood that has a high degree of livability and is thinking long term about the use of our land and resources. Conservation Subdivision Design will provide Fernie and Belay with an ideal opportunity to combine conservation with development.

Our development WILL BE TAX REVENUE POSITIVE, and create upwards of 300 jobs over the lifetime of the project. We cannot stress enough the fact that all development costs will be our responsibility. As well, any new maintenance costs resulting from the development will easily be recovered through new taxes whether it is developed or not. This is a tremendous economic opportunity for the City of Fernie, with Belay Enterprises Ltd committed to assuming all financial responsibility.

Belay also feels that it is very important that we remain accessible at all times in order to address public concerns. Feel free to contact us personally at any time, by way of a phone call, or through an e-mail. Visit our website at thecedars.ca for more information.

Sincerely,
Sean Staplin

Vote Yes! on Nov. 25th

Sean has been an active and integral part of our community for years, it is in our communities best interest that we support him, and Belay Enterprises in this worthy endeavour.

We have allowed so much development in this city by developers who have little to no ties to this community, and their developments have not taken nearly as much consideration for our environment.

It would be a shame to see this development defeated by a few naysayers, GET OUT AND VOTE YES ON NOV 25th!
